SUMMARY:

AirCorps Aviation, located in Bemidji, MN, is known for award-winning restorations of WWII aircraft. We also support the aerospace industry through part manufacturing, part sales, and historic document preservation. With over 60 employees and growing, we are looking for talented individuals to join our team.

The Machinist 1 position is responsible for safely and efficiently operating CNC mills, lathes, routers, and assisting with other machining operations.

Key expectations include producing high quality results, working efficiently and independently with minimal supervision to ensure timely completion of projects. You will also demonstrate strong knowledge of machining processes, quality standards, preventative equipment maintenance, shop organization, safety, and continuous improvement.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensures projects are completed on time and to specifications.  
  • Performs additional duties as assigned. 
  • Accurately use and read precision measuring devices (calipers, micrometers, etc.)
  • Works with others as part of a high-performance team
  • Cross-trains to skillfully operate a variety of production equipment. 
  • Develops work holding and select cutting tools based on part feature and material requirements
  • Creates and compiles necessary documents and work procedures to aid in machine setup and operation.   
  • Accepts and applies on-the-job training to advance professional skill level

  •  Accurately interprets work orders to select the correct materials and perform equipment set-up/programming.
  •  Proactively identifies defects or equipment issues to minimize scrap materials and rework of parts.
  • Performs first-article and random inspections of completed work according to quality standards.
  • Seeks out opportunities to build new skills.  Develops good work habits to ensure a high quality of work is accomplished.
  • Effectively and proficiently adapts to changing tasks and project requirements.
  • Identifies and suggests ways for the company to improve the efficiency and quality of production.

  • Effectively and proficiently navigates AirCorps’ digital and physical libraries to access part drawings, manuals, and other resources.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Be able to read, write, and speak English clearly.
  • Effective and appropriate oral and written communication skills.
  • Seeks out and uses technical resources in the appropriate format
  • Effectively and proficiently uses systems to communicate and project needs with other team members, maintain relevant compliance data, and monitor task completions.
  • Proficient at all aspects of operating relevant equipment, including advanced set-up, programming, and efficiently transitioning between orders.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and make decisions within a set of guidelines
  • Ability to read and understand required internal manufacturing paperwork
  • Ability to work under limited supervision using standardized practices and/or procedures.
  • Must have manual dexterity and physical strength necessary to operate equipment.
  • Must have visual acuity to inspect and identify defects.
  • Must have machining knowledge. 
  • Must be able to lift and pull objects weighing up to 50 pounds at a time.
