The Sendoff we had last night for Sierra Sue was a hit. There were close to 150 attendees. We’ll post more info and photos of the event soon.
The Aircorps team started early this morning in the dismantling of the airplane. By 4:30 the fuselage was getting lifted onto the flatbed truck.
Just finished reading the book by John Christgau and thought I’d
google Sierra Sue II. Glad I did. Bob Bohna (the pilot of her during the end of WWII) was a good friend of my fathers and I knew him very well. It was neat to learn of his exploits during that time. He would often say that he was a German Ace, refering to how he was probably the only American pilot to have ‘killed’ 5 allied airplanes. Great to know that this iconic warbird will continue to live on. Thanks to ‘Doc’ for taking such good care of her. I hope to one day see her in person.
